Following a landmark court verdict that overturned the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendment, Deputy President William Ruto has called for additional attention on the COVID-19 immunization, economic recovery, and the Big Four agenda.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was chastised by a five-judge court on Thursday night for commencing an unconstitutional procedure to rewrite the Constitution with his handshake partner, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Our democracy is anchored on the rule of Law, constitutionalism, separation of power and respect for independent institutions. Now let’s focus on COVID vaccination, economic recovery, the big4 and stay united,” the DP tweeted.

BBI was founded in 2018 following the nullification of the presidential results in the 2017 general election, which resulted in political tensions across the country.

Raila Odinga boycotted the re-run presidential polls, handing President Kenyatta a landslide victory.

Even as the divide between Uhuru and his deputy Ruto widened during their second term in government, the two reconciled, began, and popularized the process, and have since remained allies.
