DPP Distances Himself From High Court Judges Chitembwe, Mchelule Arrest

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, has denied claims that he has interacted with any investigative file for High Court Judges Aggrey Muchelule and Said Chitembwe.

The DPP stated that he is not familiar with the investigations by the or Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The DPP requested the court to reject the complaint brought in court by the Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association (KJMA) challenging the detention of the two judicial officers in a replying affidavit by State lawyer Becky Arunga.

According to court documents, the DPP stated that KJMA’s petition was filed in bad faith because he had taken no action in the subject.

The DCI stated last week that a total of Ksh.6 million was taken during a raid in Nairobi in which the two judges were arrested.

Chief Inspector Felix Karisa Banzi stated in an affidavit submitted in court that they recovered USD 50,000 from an unnamed lady in Justice Aggrey Muchelule’s chambers and another 7,000 USD from Justice Said Chitembwe.

In the case brought by the KJMA, the two judges were named as the first and second interested parties.
