DPP Haji: Why I Dropped ‘Fake’ Corruption Cases

DPP Noordin Haji has stated that the office of the ODPP stood its ground and lived up to its mandate.

Haji said that the office was able to showcase how an independent institution ought to work

“ODPP came up with the decision to charge in 2019. Alot of decisions we made were based on the Threshold test that depended on good faith but it didn’t exist.Good faith and integrity is important ” DPP Noordin Haji said.

Further, Haji said that when he assumed office, he believed there will be good will. “When I said, I could deliver, I meant it, even when I was threatened and taken to court for removal, I stood my ground” Haji said.

Haji proceeds to say that it has never been the intention of the ODPP to charge baseless cases without any limb of evidence to walk on.

“We did not want to charge frivolous cases. The reason why we make that decision to charge is to ensure there is rule of law and there is equality, we don’t want a miscarriage of justice.” DPP Noordin Haji
