Russian officials have accused Ukraine of launching a drone attack on a building in Moscow, resulting in an explosion that reverberated across the city’s business district.
The incident occurred around 04:00 local time, with the drone being intercepted by air defenses. The debris from the drone fell onto Moscow’s Expo Center, causing unverified footage on social media to show thick grey smoke rising into the night sky.
The attack marked a continuation of similar incidents targeting the Russian capital. The Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, home to government buildings, was the site of the drone’s impact.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties, and the Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that the drone caused minimal damage to the building.
This event follows a series of drone strikes on Moscow, with some strikingly close to the Kremlin. Earlier this year, Moscow had remained largely untouched by the conflict in Ukraine.
However, recent months have seen an increase in such attacks, causing concern and disruption in the city.
Ukraine has not officially acknowledged launching attacks on Moscow, and the situation underscores the escalating tensions and unpredictable nature of the ongoing conflict.
