Dubai Launches Humanitarian Villages Project, Kenya to Host First Site

By Michelle Ndaga

Kenya is set to host the world’s first “Humanitarian Village” under a landmark initiative launched by Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed in memory of his late brother, Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

Unveiled in Dubai, the Humanitarian Villages Project aims to go beyond short-term relief by building self-sustaining villages that provide education, healthcare, clean water, housing, and economic empowerment for vulnerable communities.

Kenya was chosen as the inaugural site, with the first village expected to break ground before the end of 2025. The project will include income-generating activities, vocational training programs, and modern infrastructure designed to help local populations become self-reliant.

“Our goal is to offer hope, restore dignity, and create opportunities for a better future,” Sheikh Hamdan said at the launch, describing the initiative as a reflection of Dubai’s commitment to global humanitarian leadership.

Kenyan officials welcomed the move, saying the project aligns with the country’s push to tackle poverty and improve livelihoods, especially in marginalized areas.

Further details on the location and timeline of the Kenyan village will be announced in the coming weeks.
