The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested 4 state officials to answer to charges over an alleged misappropriation of a Ksh. 103 Million project. – By Gerald Gekara.
The four including Nofatos Ng’ang’a Munyu, the former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) boss, are accused of influencing procurement irregularities in a tender allocation for prequalification of solar contractors for the electrification of Public Primary Schools in Kenya amounting to Ksh. 103,391,910.00.
EACC uncovered that M/s Nav World Limited did not participate in the tender for prequalification for installation of solar systems to public primary schools in Kenya.
However, the former CEO Nofatos Nganga Munyu issued a letter of successful prequalification to M/s Nav World and awarded the company a contract to install solar systems in public primary schools at a cost of Kshs. 39,896,018.
Similarly, Northpride Ltd did not participate in the tender for prequalification for installation of solar systems to public primary schools in Kenya.
However, the former CEO Nofatos Nganga Munyu issued a letter of successful prequalification to M/s Northpride Ltd and awarded the company a contract to install solar systems in public primary schools at a cost of Kshs. 46,957,685.
The EACC say the company, M/s Nav World Limited was incorporated by the Registrar of Companies on 2nd September 2014, receiving the tender three months before incorporation it was declared legal.
The accused will face charges including, conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, Abuse of office, and Fraudulent acquisition of public property.
Nofatos was arrested alongside James Muriithi – Head of Renewable Energy, Joel Omusembe – Head of Procurement, and Simon Kirui – Economist.
Other suspects expected at the EACC offices include, – Directors of Nav World Limited, Abdirahman Dakane Abdullahi, and Abdi Majid Abass.
Directors of North Pride Limited summoned also include, Hassan Sheikh Mohammed Diriye, and Fatuma Abdi Hassan.
