EACC Moves in on Irungu Kangata after BBI Fall-out

Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata is allegedly under investigation after his law firm appeared in a list of 25 firms being investigated for fraudulent dealings with Nairobi county. – By Gerald Gekara.

In the document Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating the validity of legal fees charged by the City county to law firms, requesting them to submit legal documents as proof of actual service.

“The commission is undertaking investigations at the Nairobi City County in respect of payments of legal fees to the following firms… To facilitate our investigations, kindly but urgently furnish us with the original documents in respect to the mentioned firms,” the statement read.

Kang’ata, has disputed the move, saying the probe was a political plot against him. He said he has worked with the county and was properly awarded for his dealings.

“I have all the documents to show my singular payment from City Hall was legal and legitimate. It’s not a coincidence that the investigations is being done three years after the payment,” Irungu Kang’ata said.

Kang’ata is in the middle of a Building Bridges Initiative debate, after alluding that the document was not popular among the Mount Kenya tribes.

The controversial letter has so far seen him openly vowing to sever ties with Jubilee party if action is taken against him.

President Uhuru Kenyatta warned politicians who will not tow the line, reiterating that he was incharge of the government.
