EACC, Police Distance Themselves From Khaminwa Raid

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has denied accusations that it dispatched police officers to lawyer John Khaminwa’s office in an attempt to intimidate him over his BBI appeal arguments.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the EACC stated that it did not undertake any operations on Saturday when the reports were made public, therefore declaring them null and void.

This comes after Khaminwa, who was one of the lawyers who represented respondents in the BBI appeal case, alleged on Saturday that he had received threats from people posing as cops.

He claimed that two people posing as EACC officers came to see him on Saturday morning in an apparent attempt to intimidate him.

The seasoned lawyer speculated that the strange visit was related to his caustic submission on Friday, which he claimed drew the attention of some important individuals.

Despite the fact that he did not name names, Khaminwa believes his remarks on the last day of submissions in the Court of Appeal may have ruffled some feathers.

The 84-year-old claimed he had a hunch the officers who came to see him were sent by a higher authority, presumably in response to his court testimony.

In the BBI Appeal Hearing, Khaminwa said the president was operating above the law.

“When you have a president who is not obeying court orders; when you have a president who is demeaning judges before the public, this court must stand firm and tell him ‘No, we shall not hear you, we shall not give you orders at all.”
