EACC: Sonko, Waititu shelve your ambitions for politics

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has warned former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, and his impeached counterpart Ferdinand Waititu over their intent to run for elective posts. – By Gerald Gekara.

The EACC cited their pending cases bar them from contesting on any elective posts, until their fate is decided.

Mr. Waititu, who had already submitted his papers for vetting, is currently facing cases of corruption and abuse of office.

In a gazette notice published on 29th January, the governor was ousted after the Senate approved the impeachment motion presented in their chambers.

With38 members present, the senate quoted the grounds on which Governor Waititu was impeached, which were;

In the Gross violation of the constitution, 27 senators voted to remove the governor while 12 voted against.

In Violating national laws, 28 senators voted for his ouster while 11 opposed, with the same pattern being repeated on gross misconduct.

Mike Sonko on the other hand, was ousted under the same grounds. Local leaders had vowed to support his bid, if he runs for the Machakos Senator post.
