‘Education and poverty do not co-exist’ – Gov. Malombe calls parents to educate their children

Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe graced the launch of the celebration of the Day of the African Child at Ithookwe Primary School, Kitui Central Sub county today.

In his speech during the day themed “Education for all children in Africa: the time is now”, the Governor said “education remains a fundamental right and a beacon that illuminates the path towards progress, empowerment and transformation.”

Governor Malombe called on all stakeholders to commit towards ensuring that every child accesses quality education regardless of their background.

“Africa’s children are our greatest asset. Their dreams, aspirations and boundless potential are the building blocks of our continent’s future”. He said.

The Governor highlighted milestones the county has realized in supporting learners through construction of ECDE classrooms, hiring of teachers, providing learning materials and the pro poor bursary support as per his development plan.

On his part, Director of Policy and Partnerships in the Ministry of Education Bartholomew Lumbasi – representing CS Machogu said the day presents the African States an occasion to reflect on the opportunities and overcome challenges for full realization of the rights of African children.

Today’s ceremony aims to commemorate the Soweto children’s uprising of 1976 in South Africa.

Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu was among leaders present.
