Egerton Lecturers Strike Called Off

Egerton University lecturers went on strike last week to protest salary pay cuts of up to 43% since 2020.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru has ordered that the Egerton University lecturers’ strike be called off to allow for negotiations.

Lady Justice Hellen Wasilwa ordered that the institution’s management and the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) engage in dialogue to end the stalemate in a ruling dated October 25, 2022.

Justice Wasilwa also stated that the court will rule on the matter again on December 1, 2022.

Egerton University lecturers went on strike last week to protest salary pay cuts of up to 43% since 2020.

The strike entered its second week, paralyzing learning, forcing the university’s administration to file a petition in court to halt the strike and allow for negotiations.
