Journalist Irene Muchuma has filed a lawsuit against Thomas Nzioki of Jesus of Victory Worship Centre for noise pollution and operating an unregistered church.
The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) presenter complained that the center operates within the estate and creates excessive noise for residents.
As a landlady in Tassia-Embakasi, her houses have struggled to retain tenants because most of them are unable to keep up with the deafening noise.
As a result of the noise, her three-month-old baby has struggled to sleep which is affecting both of them.
“They are frustrating me because they believe they have money to throw their weight around,” she lamented.
Given her sense of injustice, Muchuma has chosen to go legal, claiming that the church’s continued operation is dangerous and harmful to the children in the estate.
The petitioner, through her lawyer Suyianka Lempaa, also claims that Nzioki has been illegally operating an unregistered church since 2014.
Muchuma claims she wants an injunction to stop the church’s operations.
According to her, the church plays loud music regardless of whether there are congregants or not.
“Our right to a peaceful environment has been violated and continues to be violated for which we hold the defendant liable,” she complained.
The defendant appeared before Justice Samson Okongo, who ordered him to file an affidavit within 14 days, with the hearing set for September 22.
