Energy Ministry Moves To Restore Degraded Water Catchment Areas

Written By Vanessa Kariuki ||

The Ministry of Energy has vowed to collaborate with Communities to create woodlots and plant trees in the water catchment zones of hydropower dams using the KEEP Fund.

KEEP carries out projects in the Upper Tana Catchment, Nchura and Mweru Hills, Nyeri, Londiani in Kericho, Maragoli Hills, and Trans Nzoia Counties.

In June 2022, community forest association members planted trees in Vihiga County’s Maragoli Hills. These trees have since grown enormously.

The goal of the State Department’s energy initiatives is to support President Ruto’s intention to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
