Environment Ministry, UNDP To Address Land Degradation

Written By Vanessa Kariuki ||

A conference with local leaders was being held in Suswa by the Ministry of Environment in coordination with UNDPKenya under the Forestry and Land Restoration Action for Kenya’s NDCs (FLARAK).

The purpose of this conference is to raise awareness of the problems caused by land degradation in the area and to enlist local leadership in support of ongoing and future efforts at rehabilitation.

FLARAK is a one-year catalytic project that focuses on the restoration of Narok County’s damaged landscapes.

Kenya Forest Services, Kenya Forestry Research Institute, and EwasoNgiro South Development Authority are all involved in the project’s execution.

The Suswa-Lake Magadi ecosystem, which includes the counties of Narok and Kajiado, will be restored through these initiatives.

By building terraces, gabions, and farm ponds, the Ewaso Ng’iro South Development Authority specifically supports soil and water conservation at the upper watershed of the landscape.

Hon. Ken Aramat, the Narok East MP, Ngala Oloitipitip, the MD of the Ewaso Ng’iro South Development Authority, MCAs Lemiso Kimiti and Nickson Kisotu, the Ministry of the Environment’s Augustine Kenduiywo, UNDP Kenya’s Everlyne Koech and Yvonne Nyokabi, and representatives from Narok and Kajiado counties attend the meeting.
