Eric Donaldson, a seven-time Jamaica Festival Song winner, was treated royally upon his arrival in Kenya on Monday, where he was performing for the first time.
Donaldson is scheduled to perform at the Carnivore grounds on Saturday during the Reggae-themed “Umoja Splash Festival.”
According to a Nairobi City County newspaper, the St. Catherine native, well known for the mega-hit Cherry Oh Baby and the classic This is the Land of My Birth, was officially welcomed in Nairobi by Governor Ann Kananu and promised fans a fantastic night.
According to the newspaper, Governor Kananu praised Donaldson “for his meaningful songs with captivating messages to society.”
Following a luncheon honoring the Join Di Line singer, Governor Kananu urged Kenyan musicians to follow in the footsteps of the great entertainer by writing songs that will alter the society.
“I have attended his concerts and I’m sure reggae fans will enjoy his performance. I’m urging all reggae fans to turn up in large numbers,” she said.
