Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid Makes Historic Trip To Kenya

President Kersti Kaljulaid has begun her official state visit to Kenya, which will be her final official visit before her tenure ends next month.

The tour will focus on business diplomacy and boosting Estonian companies’ interests in Africa, an issue that Kaljulaid has emphasized a lot during her president.

According to the president’s office, this is the first formal visit of an Estonian head of state to an African country.

“[Kenyan capital] Nairobi is the core of Africa’s economic activity, and several Estonian enterprises want to extend their influence there,” said Kristel Engman of the president’s office’s foreign department.

She also stated that Kenya is one of Africa’s major diplomatic hubs, with the headquarters of various international organizations located there.

“But it’s also crucial that the two countries work together and share their experiences. Our education, e-governance, and digital experience have all piqued Kenya’s interest “Engman went on.

Estonia is planned to open an embassy in Nairobi, according to the verified Africa area strategy for 2020-2030, but the Foreign Ministry had no further information.
