Ethiopian Prime Minister in Kenya for two-day visit after Tigray crisis

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has received state reception at Moyale border town, ahead of his tour and official opening of a one stop border post. – By Gerald Gekara.

He was recieved by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who will be guiding him on a tour of the post, as well as the developments at the Lamu port.

The ongoing construction of Lamu port, will include a 32-berth Port constructed under the Lamu Port – South Sudan – Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor. 

The mega-project launched during President Mwai Kibaki tenure will cement Kenya’s position as a gateway and transport hub in East and Central Africa.

Kenya and Ethiopia enjoy brotherly diplomatic relations, unlike its Somali and Djibouti neighbours.

An Ethio-Kenya Special Status Agreement has enabled the two East African countries to maintain strong ties they have had for decades.

This will be first foreign trip Abiy has taken since the heightened tension in the Tigray region where he launched a military operation targeting the Trigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
