Central Bank ordered to investigate Ksh 100Million seized from Nigerian

The High Court has ordered the Central Bank of Kenya to investigate over Ksh 100 million that was confiscated from a foreigner suspected to be money laundering. By Gerald Gekara.

The foreign national who was heading to Dubai from Nigeria was arrested in possession of USD 880,000, 60,000 Euros and 63,000 Naira.

According to the DCI, Transnational Organized Crime Detectives (TOCU) have embarked on a fact finding mission alongside the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) to reveal the source and validity of the monies.

However, the believes “the seized cash is believed to be from International Criminal Cartels”.

Detectives argued that he could have transferred money to banks in the Middle East rather than travelling with cash to avoid unnecessary suspicion.

However, the West African claimed that he was heading to Dubai for legitimate business as opposed to laundering money.
