Ex-Dubai Bank Boss In Court Over Ksh. 521M Fraud

Written by Cyrus Kimanga | |

The former Dubai Bank boss Hassan Ahmed Zubeidi alongside the other five accused persons took the plea of not guilty over a case where they are charged with defrauding Kenya Airways over Ksh 521 million.

Hassan Zubeidi was in Court today where he pleaded not guilty.

Zubeidi alongside the other co-accused persons faces a charge of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code.

Particulars of the offences are that the accused persons conspired to steal Ksh 521,939,870 from Kenya Airways.

The crime is said to have been committed between January 2013 and December 2015 at Dubai Bank within the republic of Kenya.

The charge sheet lists Elijah Itegi Githinji, Grace Wamuyu Mathenge, Jane Wanjiru Kiboi, Jackson Kiruthi Njiiri and Elias Kyalo Ngao as the other accused persons.

In 2017, Mr Hassan Zubeidi moved to Court to oppose his prosecution over the alleged crime which led to the collapse of the said Bank in Nairobi Kenya in 2015.

He succeeded in obtaining orders from the High Court of Kenya to stop his arrest over the crime.

Nevertheless, the order gave the DCI leeway to record Mr Zubeidi’s statement to help the police conclude their investigations.

The same High Court later on in the year 2018 set aside orders stopping his investigations and prosecution over the crime leaving a window for the Directorate of Public Prosecution to initiate Zubeidi’s prosecution.
