Ex-Kenya Soccer players form an association to look into welfare matters

Former Kenyan footballers have formed an association to look into their welfare – By Enock Mukoma.

Many former players are left on their own after football, with some living in extreme poverty, and it is, for this reason, the Kenya Association of Former Footballers (KAFF) has been formed.

Athanas Obango will serve as the interim chairman. During his days he turned for Posta Rangers and Shabana FC and was the founder member of KCB back in 1988.

Obango says the association will seek solutions that will ensure former players lead dignified lives in retirement.
“This is a union purely for former players not the current ones,” the interim chairman told Uzalendo News.

“We are here to look at the interest of retired players with the aim of helping them and provide them a community where they feel they belong. We are not here to rival any existing association whatsoever.”

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti will serve as the vice-chairman. Others are Tusker FC defender Harold Ndege who will be the secretary while Boniface Ambani, who still holds the record of most goals in the Kenyan Premier League (26), will serve as the treasurer.
