A land scam that started in Kitui in 2019 has resurfaced as a fresh cartel seeks to grab land belonging to a former top land surveyor.
The cartel, first exposed by Uzalendo News in 2020, has resurfaced after the key suspects, out on court bond, recruited new players.
In the latest fraud, a former employee of the Kitui County Government paid land rates for the plot using a nonexistent lease number and location.

The payment narrative describes the land as Kitui Town Parcel 2/89 to facilitate the grabbing of the actual prime land near JICA leased as Kitui Municipality 2/89.
The land targeted by the grabbers belongs to Mr. Christopher Asumani Kimele, a former Chief Government caryographer.
In the eye of the storm, Mr. Moses Boss Kathuvi (see fake receipt) claims to have acquired the land in 1996. From his father.
The land number, however, is different from the one he is claiming.
He has now resorted to using bloggers to intimidate the actual landowners. The land is worth Sh. 8 million.
