Dignitaries and fans will gather at Santos’ Vila Belmiro Stadium to pay their respects to Pele.

On Monday and Tuesday, the funeral will be held.

According to Africanews, the three-time World Cup champion’s coffin will leave Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo early Monday morning and be placed in the center circle of the field.

Pelé’s casket will be carried through the streets of Santos, passing in front of his 100-year-old mother, Celeste’s, home.

According to recent reports in Brazilian media, Pelé’s mother is unable to leave her bed and is not lucid.

The funeral will be held at Santos’ Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica, a vertical cemetery. Only family members will be present.

Santos is home to at least two million people. The burial ceremony is expected to be emotional given the fact that Pele leaves behind a strong history of milestone accomplishments.
