Ruja Ignatova, dubbed the “missing Cryptoqueen,” has been added to the FBI’s top ten most wanted list.
The Bulgarian woman, said to be in her 40s, is wanted for alleged involvement in the OneCoin cryptocurrency scam.
Federal authorities accuse the fugitive of exploiting the plan to defraud victims of more than $4 billion (£3.2 billion).
She has been missing since 2017, when US officials issued an arrest warrant and investigators started looking for her.
OneCoin, a self-described cryptocurrency, started providing customers commission if they sold the currency to additional people in 2014.
However, FBI officials claim that OneCoin was worthless and was never protected by the blockchain technology that other cryptocurrencies employ.
A bureau notice released on Thursday offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Ms Ignatova’s arrest, who was charged with eight counts of wire fraud and securities fraud in 2019.
