FBI Arrests Man Who Caused Capitol Chaos After Being Deported From Kenya

An American national who fled to Kenya over the January 6, 2021 chaos at the Capitol in Washington was at the weekend deported from Nairobi.-By John Mutiso.

Isaac Steve Sturgeon, 32, allegedly picked up a metal bar police and shoved it towards Capitol police officers during a pro-Trump demonstration.The incident occurred when former United States president Donald Trump’s supporters breached security and stormed the congress in a bid to halt Joe Biden’s certification process as president.

Court documents indicated that Sturgeon travelled to Kenya on January 24, 2021 and had planned to return to the US on April 5, 2021. However, the US government requested Kenya to deport Sturgeon where he was put on a March 5 flight back to the US.

After his deportation, the 32-year-old was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officers upon his arrival at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York city.

He was indicted on seven charges, including obstruction of justice, assaulting, resisting or impeding officers, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building and an act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds.

Sturgeon is currently being held in New York, where federal prosecutors are seeking his removal to Washington DC.
