Female Students Stage Walk Out To Report ‘Corrupt’ Principal

Students from Toniok Girls Secondary School in Rift Valley are said to have endangered their lives by walking to the local DEO late at night to report alleged extortion by their school principal.

They claim they are being charged additional costs in addition to the regular school tuition they pay.

Furthermore, the kids expressed dissatisfaction with their school’s nutrition, prompting them to take action and notify the appropriate authorities about the situation at their school.

The females were taken to the Eldama Ravine Police Station, where they gave statements about their allegations.

Their complaints were heard, and personnel involved promised them that investigations would be conducted and that required actions would be taken.

This comes as many parents have complained about the difficult state of their lives, especially as their children open school to start a new term. They also said that fares had been doubled upon school reopening.

The government has however provided Sh17 billion to public schools for the 2021 academic year.

Education Minister George Magoha said the Government provided Sh17.47 billion as general funding for all students.

Of these, Sh2.62 billion is targeted at primary school students while Sh14.85 billion is to support secondary school students. Magoha said any additional fees outside the official guide will not be tolerated.
