Fire Breaks out at Moi Girls’ School Nairobi

A fire incident was on Monday, January 20, reported at Moi Girls’ High School in Nairobi. 

According to Preliminary reports, the fire broke out in one of the buildings at the institution. 

Police disclosed that all the students had been evacuated and the fire was contained by fire engines that were on sight. 

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. 

In a further update, the Kenya Red Cross team provided 200 mattresses, 400 blankets, and 200 dignity kits to the students. 

“Our counseling team will be offering Psychosocial Support Services to the affected,” Kenya Red Cross said in a statement. 

This is the second time a fire incident has been reported at the school.

he incident comes barely two weeks after schools reopened for the 2025 academic calendar on January 6.

A dormitory fire at the same school in September 2017 killed ten girls. 

Investigations indicated that the fire was started deliberately.

A student was found guilty of manslaughter in December 2021 after the court acquitted her of murder.

The 18-year-old committed the offence aged 14 in her first year at the school.
