First Lady Rachel Ruto Cycles From State House To Gigiri To Promote Eco-Friendly Transport

    The First Lady Rachel Ruto Tuesday cycled to the Second Session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly from State House for the launch of Global Alliance of Cities for Road Safety at UNON Gigiri.

    Under the Mama Cycling initiative, Rachel and her team covered a 10.8 km distance, after which she launched the Global Alliance of Cities for Road Safety. The initiative also aims at promoting a healthy community through cycling. 

    She is also set to host the First Ladies Roundtable where she will share her vision for a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.

    First Lady Rachel Ruto and other influential voices are expected to discuss how to build resilient, equitable and thriving communities at the Assembly.

    Speaking in Gigiri, Racheal called for mutual respect between cyclists and motorists, encouraging to them to work together to ensure safety on the roads.

    “As we ride through our memories and experiences, let’s promote respect between drivers and cyclists. Together we can create a society that values sustainable transport, promotes equality and builds a safer future,” she said.

    The First Lady highlighted the significance of the Global Alliance of Cities which is aimed at promoting road safety and protecting the environment from pollution. 

    Mama Cycling recently received a donation of 283 bicycles from the Republic of Korea. The remarkable contribution included 100 commuter bikes, 155 electric bikes and 28 mountain and road bikes. The aim was to promote sustainable transport and empower individuals through non-motorized means.
