First Two Cases Of Mpox Virus Reported In Machakos County

Two people at Kangundo Level 4 Hospital in Machakos County have been confirmed to have contracted the Monkey Pox virus and have been placed in isolation units.

The hospital’s medical superintendent, Juliet Munyao, said that the two were found to have symptoms of the disease last Friday. Their tests were collected, then sent to the laboratory, where the results yesterday confirmed that they were infected with the Mpox virus.

Juliet also said that there are no challenges facing this hospital and these patients continue to receive appropriate treatment.

The public health officer in the Kangundo Subcounty Fredrick Kimemia, has also urged residents to follow health measures to prevent the spread of this virus, while warning citizens about the symptoms of this disease in order to receive early treatment without further harm.

Mpox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus that is spread through close contact, with symptoms including fever, swelling of the lymph nodes, sore throat, muscle aches, skin rash, and back pain.

According to the WHO, several outbreaks of different clades of mpox have occurred in different countries, with different modes of transmission and different levels of risk.
