Nakuru High Court has charged five men with the murder of Richard Otieno, alias Molo President, a well-known blogger and political activist.
Otieno was fatally assaulted on January 18, 2025, while returning home from Toshapool Table, an entertainment joint in Elburgon where he had been socializing with friends.
His brutal killing sparked public outrage, with calls for justice from both political circles and human rights activists.
The accused—Peter Okech, Joseph Kihara, Evans Aseka, Geoffrey Ndung’u, and Stephen Masheti—appeared before Lady Justice Patricia Gichohi on Thursday. They all pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
According to police reports, Otieno was attacked near his residence and succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical assistance.
Investigators believe the assault may have been politically motivated, given the deceased’s outspoken nature on governance issues in the region.
During the court session, the prosecution opposed immediate bail, arguing that the case involved serious charges that required further investigations.
However, Lady Justice Gichohi directed that the matter be mentioned on March 27, 2025, when the court will give directions on bond and bail terms.
The case has drawn significant attention, with supporters of the deceased calling for a speedy trial to ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, the suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course.
