Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has been appointed as a member of the FIFA Institutional Relations Committee.
The appointment places Kenya for the first time in one of FIFA’s high-level standing committees.
In a statement, Hussein expressed his gratitude to FIFA for entrusting Kenya with such a critical role, noting that the appointment reflects confidence in the nation’s efforts to elevate football standards both locally and regionally.
“My gratitude to the team at FIFA for trusting Kenya with this critical position in the standing committees of FIFA,” he said.
“It is the first time for Kenya to be in these committees at the global level, and we have shown our commitment and dedication to improving football standards not only for Kenya but also across the region.”
The FKF president described the appointment as a very big step for Kenyan football, emphasizing that it presents an opportunity for the country to participate directly in shaping global football policy and institutional engagement.
He pledged to use the platform to advance the interests of Kenya and Africa within the world football governing body.
“We will put our best foot forward,” Hussein affirmed.
With the new role, Hussein joins a select group of global football administrators serving under FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
FIFA’s Institutional Relations Committee plays a crucial role in managing relations between FIFA, its member associations, confederations, and other football stakeholders worldwide.
The committee also advises on governance and cooperation matters that strengthen the sport’s global framework.
Hussein’s appointment comes at a time when Kenyan football is undergoing reforms and rebuilding its reputation after years of administrative challenges.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya congratulated the Football Kenya Federation President on his appointment to the Committee, describing it as a historic milestone for Kenya and the CECAFA region.
Mvurya said the appointment reflects Kenya’s growing stature in global football governance and underscores the country’s dedication to promoting accountability and collaboration in the sport.
“I wish to convey my sincere congratulations to Hussein Mohammed, President of the Football Kenya Federation, on his appointment to the FIFA Institutional Relations Committee,” Mvurya said.
“This historic milestone marks a proud moment for Kenya and the CECAFA region, reflecting Kenya’s rising stature in global football administration and underscores our shared commitment to advancing good governance and international collaboration in the sport.”
The Cabinet Secretary also extended congratulations to Abdalla Yusuf Ibrahim, a member of the FKF National Executive Committee and President of Donholm Seniors FC, for his appointment to the FIFA Stadium and Security Committee.
Mvurya said the dual appointments signal growing international recognition of Kenya’s progress in football management and reform.
He noted that such milestones reinforce the nation’s ambition to play a bigger role in shaping the sport’s global direction.
