Former Bonchari Legislator Put on His Defense Over Fraud

Former Bonchari MP Robert Pavel Oimeke took the stand yesterday to defend himself against bribery charges after the Milimani Anti-Corruption court ordered him to do so.

In his defense, the former Director General of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority claimed that he was framed by detectives who stormed his office and arrested him.

Despite the prosecution demonstrating to the court through video evidence that he had received the envelope containing bribe money from the complainant, the accused made the claims.

He also claimed that he picked the envelope with his left hand, despite the fact that the Government Chemist Analyst Report found traces of APQ powder, a chemical used in such operations, on both of his hands.

The accused was charged with requesting Sh500,000 from the complainant and receiving Sh200,000 in order to facilitate the re-opening of his petrol station in Oyugis, Homabay County, in 2020.
