Former DPP Philip Murgor Grilled For CJ Position

Enters Day five. And the candidate, Murgor Philip Kipchirchir, SC is no stranger to the public.

SC Murgor is appearing before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) panel to prove his candidature as the next chief justice.

  • Mr. Murgor, who hails from Elgeyo Marakwet County at 60 years, has managed; a Master of Laws from the University of Nairobi (2011), Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi (1985) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law (1986).

Murgor was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1986 and has an aggregate of 34 years experience in the legal profession.

  • He is the current Managing Partner at the Murgor & Murgor Advocates, a firm he founded alongside his wife, Justice Agnes K. Murgor.

He has also served as the Director of Public Prosecutions, Office of the Attorney General between 2003 and 2005.

By the end of today, five of the 10 chief justice candidates will have been interviewed for the position.

Remaining candidates include;

  1. Justice Nduma Nderi
  2.  Fred Ngatia
  3. Justice William Ouko
  4. Dr Wekesa Moni
  5. Alice Yano

Out of the ten candidates, only one will be selected to replace Justice David Maraga who retired after attaining the 70-Year retirement age.

The position is currently being held by Justice Philomena Mwilu in an acting capacity.
