Former Gor Mahia, Tusker defender banned for Five Years over Match-Fixing in Uganda

Ex-Gor Mahia, Tusker FC, Bandari FC and Nairobi City Stars left-back Fred Nkata and former Sofapaka FC midfielder Feni Ali are among the key figures sanctioned by the Uganda Football Federation (FUFA) Ethics and Disciplinary Committee following a landmark ruling on match manipulation.

The committee confirmed that the disciplinary action stems from violations of Articles 43 and 44 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code in relation to a Uganda Premier League fixture between Lugazi FC and Buhimba United Saints FC played on November 8, 2025.

According to FUFA, investigations established involvement in coordinated match manipulation activities, leading to severe sanctions against five individuals found guilty.

Feni Ali, a former player, received a lifetime ban from all football-related activities after being found to have coordinated match-fixing operations across several fixtures, including the Lugazi FC vs Buhimba United Saints encounter. The ruling effectively ends his involvement in football at all levels under FUFA jurisdiction.

Fred Nkata, who previously featured for Gor Mahia FC, Tusker FC, Bandari FC and Nairobi City Stars, was handed a five-year ban after being found guilty of involvement in the same match manipulation case. The disciplinary committee stated that his actions violated the integrity of competition regulations.

Other individuals, including players and a technical director from Buhimba United Saints FC, also received bans ranging from two to five years as part of the wider crackdown.

FUFA stated that all sanctions take immediate effect and that the affected individuals have the right to appeal the decision.
