Former KNUT, Wilson Sossion has broken silence since resiging from the union

The former secretary general of Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT, Wilson Sossion has broken silence about the signing of non monetary CBA. He has claimed that a CBA with monetary gains is highly valued as money component improved the living conditions of workers and their families.

He added that the state should have not denied workers salary increments in the pretext of a bad economy induced by Covid 19 pandemic. However according to the National Treasury, It has projected an economic growth of 6.6 per cent.

He claimed that public servants salary reviews over International Monetary Fund, IMF conditions should not be entertained. He revealed that Kenya is a sovereign state and it should not be tied to such policies that will hurt the country’s human resources.

The former Knut boss added that a CBA is an Instrument of social justice by the International Labour Organisation, ILO. As a result the members states of ILO are mandated to respect, promote and realise the recommendation arrived during the CBA.

He however said that the move by government to suspend all salary increment to the public servants will disadvantage workers who will be retiring from the service between July, 2021 and June 2025. Since they will be still stagnating on the same job group. Hence their retirement packages and pension will be computed based on old salary scales.
