Beatrice Kwamboka, a former Nominated Senator and deputy Senate Minority Whip, has resigned as secretary of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Nairobi.
In a letter dated November 1, the former lawmaker expressed her gratitude to Raila Odinga and the entire ODM fraternity for giving her the opportunity to be a member and leader within the party.
“I write to relinquish the position of secretary general –Nairobi county to accord another person the opportunity to grow and lead. I will forever remain grateful to Raila Odinga, ODM and the entire leadership for the nurturing and the exposure that I have experienced for being a party member,” she said.
Kwamboka served as Mountain View MCA from 2013-2017.
She was elected on an ODM ticket before being nominated as a senator by the party in 2017-2022 where she rose to the position of deputy Minority whip in the Senate.
Kwamboka’s bid to run for Nairobi Woman Representative on the ODM ticket was defeated when the ticket was given to the incumbent, Esther Passaris.

She was a close ally of ODM party leader Raila Odinga and a great grassroots mobilizer with networks across Nairobi County.
Her departure from the party is a major blow to ODM’s ethnic balancing, as she was the highest-ranking party member from Nairobi’s Kisii community.
Former Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati successfully shifted his political base to Kisii, where he was elected governor, was the other high-ranking party member from the Kisii community in Nairobi.
