Ahmed Maamun Ali, also known as Akaku, the former Chairperson of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Magarini, Kilifi County, has passed away.
Ali died suddenly in the early hours of Tuesday, April 1.
ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir expressed his sadness over the loss.
In a statement, he described Akaku as a dedicated leader who had a big impact on the party, especially at the grassroots level.
“Akaku was not only a steadfast and passionate leader within our party, but also a true patriot who served diligently as the ODM Chairman for Magarini. His dedication to the ideals of justice, equity, and grassroots empowerment was unmatched, and his absence will be deeply felt by all of us who had the honour of working alongside him,”
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro also shared his condolences, saying the news of Akaku’s death was a big loss.
“I am profoundly saddened and speechless upon learning the unexpected news. The loss of my dear friend Ahmed Maamun Ali (AKAKU) is deeply felt, and he will be greatly missed,” the governor remarked.
“Mr. Ali served as the ODM Chairman (MAGARINI). My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and all those who knew him,” he further expressed.
Akaku was involved in local affairs and had run for the Magarini parliamentary seat in 2007 but did not win.
His death comes just days before ODM’s grassroots elections, where he was expected to have a strong influence in the Coast region.
ODM has announced that the grassroots elections will take place on April 9, 2025.
