Former Speaker Faults ‘Tribal Chieftans’ For Dividing Kenyans

Farah Maalim, a former National Assembly Speaker has castigated tribal chieftains for dividing Kenya along ethnic lines.

In an interview with Citizen TV’s Trevor Ombija, Maalim accused the big tribes in Kenya of rooting tribalism to win an retain power.

Maalim said Kenya must borrow the Tanzania through which only small tribes gave produced President’s.

“Nyerere was from a small tribe. Mwinyi was a,Swahili. Mkapa…Kikwete…Magufuli…
Tanzania is the route to go”, Maalim said.

He said leaders must stop doing business with the Government, adding that they are responsible for driving entrepreneurs out of business.

“When leaders double in business, what will the entrepreneurs do? Can they survive?”‘ He posed.

On the BBI amendments, Maalim criticized the process for proposing a constitutional overhaul saying the project would have worked in bits.

“You do not amend 74 or 80 plus provisions of the constitution at one go. The American constitution has been there for over 200 years and they have only made 37 amendments” he added.
