A priest attached to the Mary Help of Christians Don Bosco shrine has died in a road accident.
Fr. Mathew Puthumana was headed for Mkwawa, Iringa parish to hear the confessions of the faithful.
“As he was crossing the road using the zebra crossing he was knocked by a speeding boda boda (motorbike).” A source privy to the incident said.
He was rushed to the regional hospital and was taken straight to ICU assisted by confreres in Iringa and the faithful.
However, Fr. Matthew succumbed to his injuries at 6.15pm.
“It is indeed very sad and too heavy to bear. But our faith calls us to accept the plan of the Lord. May Fr. Matthew’s soul rest in peace as he enjoys the company of saints in heaven.” The church said.
