The Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli, has stated that President-elect William Ruto outwitted them in the recent August 9 elections.
Speaking at a function in Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega County, Thursday, Atwoli said Ruto had the political skills and knew his way around and had a better campaign strategy than Azimio La Umoja.
“We thought we had won since many people were clapping for us, but God had his plans, even if we had our own. Ruto’s skills in the game gave him the position,” he said.
Atwoli also asked Kenyans to support Ruto because it is God who has chosen him as Kenya’s leader.
“Right now, the father of the nation is Ruto and we must accept him so that the country can be successful and peaceful.
“You can see that he walked with our brothers like Wetangula and he will help our people. That is the work of God and we must accept it. Even in the Trade Union, we have congratulated him,” he stated.
He asked Kenyans to get used to Ruto’s voice since he will be the one who will lead in the next five years.
“I had told Kenyans to get used to the voice of Raila as their president but I never knew that I would come back and tell people to get used to the voice of Ruto. Can’t you see that is the work of God?”
Atwoli stated that he will attend the Kasarani inauguration ceremony next Tuesday.
During the campaigns, the Cotu boss was one of the many popular leaders who openly criticised Ruto’s bid for the presidency and often expressed that it would be difficult for him to win the August 9 polls.
