Ruto Lauds Parliament For Overwhelming Vote

William Ruto, the newly elected President of Kenya, has lauded the National Assembly and Senate for electing Kenya Kwanza members as their leaders.

According to the president-elect, the move demonstrated Kenya Kwanza’s national support.

Dr. Ruto also expressed confidence that the leadership of Kenya’s 13th Parliament will serve the people with purpose and distinction.

Moses Wetang’ula, a former Bungoma Senator, was elected National Assembly Speaker on Thursday after his rival, Kenneth Marende, conceded defeat before the second round of voting.

“I salute Members of Parliament for trusting Kenya Kwanza to provide leadership in both Houses; a clear indication of our national support. Congratulations to @wetanglam and @governorkingi on your election as speakers of the @NAssemblyKE and the Senate respectively,” Ruto tweeted.

In the Senate, former Kilifi governor, Amason Kingi, was elected as the speaker.

Wetangula will be deputized by Uasin Gishu woman representative, Gladys Boss Shollei, while Kingi will be deputized by Meru senator, Kathuri Murungi.

“Well in @GladysShollei and Kathuri Murungi as deputy speakers. Your elevation is a clear demonstration of Kenya Kwanza’s support. I have tremendous faith that you will serve the people of Kenya with purpose and distinction,” he added.
