Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged as EPRA Announces September Review

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has revealed that fuel prices will remain unchanged from August 15, 2024, to September 14, 2024.

This announcement comes as a welcome relief for consumers, with super petrol continuing to retail at Sh188.84 in Nairobi, while diesel and kerosene will be priced at Sh171.60 and Sh161.75, respectively.

In a statement issued by EPRA, it was highlighted that these prices are in line with the Petroleum Act 2019 and are inclusive of the 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT), as stipulated by the Finance Act 2023.

The regulatory authority noted that the maximum retail prices of petroleum products have been set following careful calculations in accordance with prevailing economic regulations.

Interestingly, the review period saw fluctuations in the average landed costs of imported petroleum products.

The price of super petrol decreased slightly by 1.06 percent, dropping from USD 716.03 to USD 708.47 per cubic meter. In contrast, diesel and kerosene both experienced increases of 1.62 and 1.87 percent, respectively, indicating a complex landscape for fuel pricing.

Residents outside of Nairobi will see varying prices. In Mombasa, super petrol will be sold at Sh185.66, while Nakuru will see super petrol priced at Sh187.90. Eldoret and Kisumu residents will pay Sh188.67 and Sh188.66 for super petrol, respectively.
