Visa ‘Broker’ Who Withheld Sick Woman’s Passport Ordered to Surrender It

A Nairobi Court has ordered a businessman accused of detaining the passports of a lady preventing her from seeking medical attention in America to submit the passport in Court within 24 hours.

Jackson Kamau Ndegwa, a businessman at Uganda house in Nairobi is accused of unlawfully detaining a passport belonging to Sheillah Wangari Gichuhi and allegedly demanded 3,500 USD before releasing the same.

He is also said to have detained another passport belonging to LMW without any lawful cause.

According to the accused person’s Lawyer, the complainant approached the accused to get a Visa where the accused demanded 2000 USD as a facilitation fee.

The complainant was in urgent need for a visa to seek medical treatment at the United States of America.

The accused told the complainant to hand over the two passports, however, after the passports were handed over, the complainant claims that she never saw the accused person again.

The accused denied the charges before Magistrate Ndombi at Milimani Law Courts where the Magistrate ordered the passports to be availed in Court tomorrow August 15, 2024.

“I have considered the application to have the two passports released to the complainant, I therefore order the accused to arraign the said passports in court tomorrow.” ruled the Magistrate.

The accused was however released on Ksh 10,000 cash bail.
