Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced new dates for public rallies in Othaya and Kieni after a chaotic church event on Sunday January 25,2026.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, January 26, 2026, Gachagua also announced his continuous plan in recruiting members to his political party.

“Continuous engagement with Our Party members our modus operandi. Spent the day with aspirants for various seats in Nyeri county at our Wamunyoro home. We have agreed on enhanced membership recruitment for members who will participate in free and fair party primaries,” Gachagua said.

He went on explaining his commitment to popularising his party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We have committed to work hard in popularizing out party to ensure the party wins all the seats in the General Elections slated for next year from Governor, Senator, Women Representative, 6 Members of the National Assembly and 30 members of the County Assembly,” Gachagua added.

On his part, Gachagua declared new dates for public rallies in Othaya and Kieni, which were aborted on Sunday.

Gachagua has accused police officers of disrupting his rallies while adding that the officers damaged his vehicles and sound systems during the Witima ACK Church in Othaya incident.

“We have also agreed on new dates for public rallies in Othaya and Kieni that were aborted yesterday after police damaged our vehicles and demobilised our sound systems. Our Party, @DCP_Democracy, remains the party of choice in Nyeri county and indeed in the whole Country,” he added.

His remarks came just a day after Rigathi Gachagua had accused specific individuals and police officers of violently attacking worshippers at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County. He spoke at an evening press conference following the disruption of a service he attended on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

According to Gachagua, tear gas filled the church compound, people were injured, vehicles were damaged, and one of his own cars was set on fire. He pointed to a group that had gathered earlier that day.

“Today in Witima, ACK Church, a gang of about 15 police officers, rogue officers under the command of two bodyguards, belonging to the guard of a Woman Rep,” Gachagua said on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

He added that the group had met at a home in Nyeri in the morning for breakfast and a briefing.

Gachagua claimed the group later moved to Witima armed with AK-47 rifles and tear gas canisters.

“They injured women and children and hurt many people. The police torched one of my vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration KDK 002. They deflated the tyres of everyone who was in church and caused untold damage to vehicles. They beat people outside the church mercilessly,” he said.

He also identified the vehicles used in the attack. “The attackers came in a matatu. They were armed with AK-47s. We have collected some 7.62-millimetre cartridges, which they brought to kill. They were aiming for our blood,” Gachagua added.
