Gachagua Cuts Short U.S. Tour to Lead DCP By-election Preparations

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ended his month-long tour of the United States ahead of schedule, citing urgent political duties linked to upcoming by-elections under his Democratic Change Party (DCP).

In a statement posted on X, Gachagua said the decision was necessary to join the party’s campaign efforts back home, forcing him to postpone several planned visits to U.S. states until early next year.

“I regret being unable to visit the scheduled remaining states since I need to get back home to join our party, DCP, in preparation for the upcoming by-elections in various parts of our country,” Gachagua stated, offering apologies to organisers and diaspora Kenyans he had been scheduled to meet.

He described the tour, aimed at strengthening the DCP’s diaspora networks, as “successful and fulfilling,” praising the U.S. party chapters for their planning, organisation, and meticulous coordination.

The former DP added that he would take a short break before returning to Kenya, promising to release his itinerary as earlier pledged.

His month-long outreach was part of the DCP’s broader strategy to build grassroots and international support ahead of the 2027 general election.
