Gachagua Leads Joint UN Flash Appeal For Drought Response In Garissa

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, November 21, chaired a roundtable of both state and non-state actors in Garissa County, to find lasting solutions to mitigating the effects of and responding to drought in the ASAL regions of Kenya.

This comes as a result of the delayed short rains being experienced in parts of the Country.

According to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the Kenya Kwanza Government has remained committed to finding both short-term and long-term solutions to the ongoing drought.

This year’s drought has deeply affected more than 4 million people across the Country.

“This, and other similar and continuous exchange of ideas will result in a united approach towards addressing the root causes of drought in the country,” he said.

He was accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Hon. Alice Muthoni Wahome, Water and Irrigation, Rebecca Miano – EAC and ASALs.

Also present were Governors Nadhif Jama – Garissa County and Ahmed Abdullahi – Wajir County and Members of parliament led by Dadaab MP Farah Maalim and area MP Abdikadir Mohammed.
