Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised alarm over an alleged assassination plot directed at him, citing recent events that have left him feeling exposed and vulnerable.
In a candid interview with NTV, Gachagua attributed the withdrawal of his security detail to what he described as a “deliberate and well-planned” scheme intended to place his life in jeopardy.
The situation escalated after a concert in Murang’a when his security personnel were reassigned, leaving him without any immediate protection.
Gachagua claims that this reassignment was a precursor to the subsequent attack he experienced during a funeral service in Limuru, Kiambu County, where violence erupted.
On Thursday, chaos ensued at the funeral of a young man named Erastus Nduati, as a group of assailants disrupted the proceedings, attacking mourners with stones, machetes, iron bars, and sticks.
Gachagua expressed his disbelief over the absence of police officers to secure the event, despite the family’s prior requests for adequate protection which went unanswered.
“This was not just a random act of violence. It was coordinated and aimed at either scaring me or worse,” Gachagua stated, highlighting his concerns over the safety of political leaders in the current climate.
The former Deputy President has sparked widespread discussions regarding the security measures in place for public figures, stressing that the alarming lack of protection in the face of rising political tensions must be addressed.
