Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya has issued a demand for a public apology and retraction following remarks he considers defamatory, through his lawyer Moses Mabeya.
In a demand letter dated April 28, 2026, Mabeya states he is acting “on firm instructions” from Gakuya over statements allegedly made during a live broadcast which, according to the letter, portrayed the legislator as being involved in criminal activity and violence.
The lawyer states that the remarks were “false, malicious and without any factual foundation,” adding that they “gravely injure our client’s reputation and standing as a Member of Parliament.”
According to the letter, the statements suggested that Gakuya was linked to organised violence and questioned his integrity and suitability for public office. His legal team maintains that “there exists no evidence whatsoever” to support those claims.
Mabeya further disputes allegations connecting Gakuya to incidents at Northlands Farm in 2024, stating that such assertions are “misleading, unfounded and calculated to portray our client in a negative light.”
Gakuya is now demanding “an unconditional public apology and retraction” to be issued on the same platforms where the statements were made, as well as the immediate removal of the content.
The demand sets a strict timeline, warning that “failure to comply will result in legal proceedings being instituted without further reference,” with Gakuya maintaining that the remarks have caused serious reputational harm.
