Kwale: Police Detain Machete-wielding Gang

The police Commander said that the suspects were dressed in Kenya Navy uniforms and it is unclear how they gained the uniform.

Six young men have been arrested by Kwale police as suspected members of a gang terrorizing residents of Kwale County.

According to Kwale Police Commander Josephat Kinyua, the young men were apprehended while riding motorcycles on their way to Diani.

They were apprehended in the Kombani area on Monday night.

The police Commander said that the suspects were dressed in Kenya Navy uniforms and it is unclear how they gained the uniform.

Mr. Kinyua further stated that the suspects were attempting to run over a police checkpoint on the Likoni-Lungalunga highway.

However, they were apprehended by police before they could flee.

The arrest follows increased concerns by residents and religious leaders over insecurity in areas around Matuga and Msambweni.

Mr Kinyua stated that police have increased patrols throughout the country.

He stated that more police officers are working on proactive measures to reduce crime across the country.
