The Mystery of Geoffrey Mwathi’s Death: What Really Happened?

Police are investigating the death of interior decorator Geoffrey Mwathi, who died after falling from the 10th floor of Redwood Flats under strange circumstances.

Mwathi, 23, is alleged to have died after falling from the 10th-floor apartment window of a residence rented out to popular Kikuyu benga singer and DJ Fatxo, actual name Lawrence Njuguna.

According to reports, the late Mwathi was recruited by the DJ to freshen up the interiors of his office and a store.

DJ Fatxo is well-known for his “Ndi Mang’a” smash hit. He also owns and operates a deejaying school.

On February 21, 2023, the interior decorator is believed to have left his home to meet with the deejay and finalize business matters.

Mwathi begged his mother for money to attend the meeting in Ruiru, according to WhatsApp recordings shared by his mother, who is presently in Qatar.

“Mum aki si unitumie 200 sahii DJ Fatxo amenichatisha ameniambia tumeet na sina doh, nangoja doh jioni,” Mwathi could be heard saying in a audio shared by his mother.

“Sawa mum, acha niende, nakaa smart nitaenda kupiga picha na yeye tukipatana nitakupigia picha uone,”

Mwathi would send his mother another audio clip hours later, this time claiming to have met the DJ and to be on Kiambu Road, having visited the two areas he was to paint.

According to a statement recorded by DJ Fatxo at the Kasarani Police station, Mwathi and DJ Fatxo traveled to four different clubs on the day they met, beginning with Bliss Bistro and ended at Quiver’s Club on Thika Road.

CCTV footage from the Redwood apartments shows Mwathi returning to the DJ’s unit about 3 a.m. with DJ Fatxo and three unidentified ladies.

According to the police report, another man, the DJ’s relative, arrived to the residence in a separate car.

The DJ was spotted on CCTV leaving his flat about 4 a.m. with three ladies, while Mwathi was left in the house with two other males.

It’s unclear what transpired.
