The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has announced the election of George Rubiri as the new chairperson of its Motorcycle Sub-Sector.
Rubiri, who currently serves as the General Manager of Car & General (Trading) Limited, succeeds Alvin Mageto, former director at Kibo Africa Limited, who has led the sub-sector since 2021. The position is voluntary and held for a two-year term, with the possibility of re-election for another term.
In his remarks, KAM CEO Tobias Alando expressed confidence in Rubiri’s leadership. “Key to success will be offering strategic leadership to the sector. George will annually review the sector’s performance, report to the Board through the Secretariat, and represent the sub-sector in key forums. Any critical issues will be escalated to the advisory committee for resolution,” Alando stated.
Rubiri, upon accepting his new role, paid tribute to his predecessor. “First, I want to thank Alvin Mageto for his dedication and commitment during his tenure. I believe I will fit in his shoes and move the sector forward. The motorcycle industry is very important to the Kenyan economy and cannot be wished away. We will work as a team and ensure it plays its vital role,” he said.
Rubiri’s leadership comes at a time when the motorcycle sector remains central to Kenya’s mobility and employment, especially in last-mile transport. Car & General, where Rubiri has played a pivotal role, was instrumental in introducing motorcycle and three-wheeler taxis in the country over two decades ago.
KAM, founded in 1959, is Kenya’s leading business association representing manufacturers and industry stakeholders. The organization continues to champion industrial growth and policy advocacy through its various sub-sectors, including the vibrant motorcycle industry.
